Pixel Watch 4 charges from a wireless charging station

According to leaked renders from Android Headlines, the Pixel Watch 4 could use a completely different charging system when it’s officially announced in a few weeks. Instead of charging with intricate pins like previous Pixel Watch models, the renders suggest that Google may finally be adopting a simpler form of wireless charging.

The images show the new Pixel Watch charging on a cradle lying on its side, with the screen displaying the current charge level, time, and upcoming alarm, just like the Apple Watch. The stand reportedly charges the smartwatch through conductive metal contacts on the left side, opposite the crown of the Pixel Watch 4. The new charging contacts were spotted in a previous leak about the Pixel Watch 4, which also suggested that the new smartwatch might be thicker than the Pixel Watch 3.

Android Headlines reports that Google’s decision to change the way the watch charges could open up several new benefits. The Pixel Watch 4 will reportedly have “25 percent faster charging speeds,” room for new sensors, and a design that is easier to repair than previous Pixel Watch models thanks to its removable back.

The new watch is also rumored to have a brighter display and come in new colors. You can buy the Pixel Watch 3 in Polished Silver, Champagne Gold, or Matte Black, in 41mm and 45mm sizes. The Pixel Watch 4 will reportedly be available in black, silver, gold, and bluish-gray Moonstone colors.

Google is expected to debut the Pixel Watch 4 along with several new Pixel 10 phones on August 20. You can read Engadget’s preview of what Google might announce to get an idea of what to expect at the event.
