Perplexity now has an in-depth research too

In a blog post on Friday, Perplexity introduced a new tool called Deep Research, which the company says can conduct “in-depth research and analysis” to provide detailed reports in response to your questions, and which is free for limited use. This comes just a couple of weeks after OpenAI announced its own Deep Research feature for ChatGPT Pro users… which in turn followed Google’s December announcement of Deep Research for Gemini. Perplexity’s tool is only available online for now, but it will soon be available in iOS, Android, and Mac apps as well.

Perplexity claims that its Deep Research “excels at a range of expert-level tasks, from finance and marketing to product research,” and that it takes about 2-4 minutes to get an answer, during which it “performs dozens of search queries, reads hundreds of sources, and reflects on the material.” Once completed, its reports can be shared or exported in PDF format. The company claims that it outperforms competitors such as OpenAI’s o3-mini, o1, and DeepSeek-R1 in the “Last Exam of Humanity” test, scoring 21.1 percent accuracy (although this is lower than OpenAI’s Deep Research).
