Netflix refuses to add announced games to the service

In recent months, Netflix has been revamping its gaming division, including adjustments to the library of games it offers to subscribers at no extra charge. The company has canceled plans to release six games that were previously intended for iOS and Android through its platform.

As first reported by What’s On Netflix, the company will no longer release Thirsty Suitors, Compass Point: West and Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. It will also not include three games from Klei Entertainment: Let’s Not Starve Together, Lab Rat, and Rothwood. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed this decision to Engadget, noting that the cancellation of the planned additions was “just a natural part of adjusting our portfolio as we learn more about what our users like.”

Tales of the Shire, a cozy life-simulation game featuring hobbits, will still be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S next month. The action RPG Thirsty Suitors received positive reviews when it debuted on PC and consoles in 2023. As for Don’t Starve Together, it was a cooperative addition to the hit survival game Don’t Starve, which was released in 2013.

Netflix has retooled its gaming department after appointing a new head last summer. The company removed several games from its library, and in October it became known that it closed its AAA studio, called Team Blue. Meanwhile, Leanne Lombe, an executive who helped add titles like Hades and Grand Theft Auto to Netflix’s library and also oversaw third-party development and publishing, recently took over the games department at Annapurna Interactive after leaving the studio.
