The mobile telephone operator MTS (Ukrainian Mobile Communications company) launched operation of 595 base stations in 2009, thus increasing the total number of its base stations by 4.6% to 13,596 compared to 2008.
The operator installed base stations in 194 population centers that were not previously covered by the MTS network.
The largest number of base stations was installed in the west of Ukraine — 30% of the total number, un.ua says.
Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) of Russia owns 100% of the shares in Ukrainian Mobile Communications.
