The Mozilla Foundation has made a drastic reduction in its team. The 30 percent reduction in staff will lead to the complete elimination of the nonprofit’s advocacy and global programs departments, according to an internal email sent by Mozilla Foundation Executive Director Nabihah Sayeed.

“The Mozilla Foundation is reorganizing teams to increase agility and impact as we accelerate our work to ensure a more open and equitable tech future for all of us,” Brandon Borrman, vice president of communications at Mozilla, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, this means that we’re shutting down some of the activities we’ve been involved in in the past and eliminating related roles to focus on the work ahead.”

Despite the fact that a separate advocacy department will be eliminated, Mozilla confirmed its commitment to this work. “We want to make it clear that the restructuring has not resulted in the abandonment of advocacy; on the contrary, advocacy is still central to the work of the Mozilla Foundation, and we are in the process of redefining our approach to it,” Borrman said in an additional comment.

The Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit division of the large Mozilla Corporation; Mozilla Corporation is the division responsible for the Firefox browser. In February, Mozilla announced the layoff of about 60 employees, mostly from the development team.
