Lyft will allow users in Atlanta to use robotaxis starting this summer, NBC News reports.
“Users in Atlanta will have the opportunity to pick up a car from a fleet of autonomous Toyota Sienna minivans equipped with May Mobility’s autonomous technology, which Lyft and May Mobility intend to scale in different markets over time,” Lyft spokesperson CJ Macklin told The Verge.
According to McLean, the company plans to launch autonomous vehicles in Dallas next year, using Marubeni cars equipped with Mobileye technology, followed by “thousands of cars and more cities.”
Lyft announced its partnership with May Mobility and Intel-owned Mobileye in November, when it announced its intention to launch autonomous vehicles equipped with May Mobility technology sometime in 2025. Lyft announced its partnership with Marubeni in February.
Earlier this month, Alphabet-owned Waymo, which also once partnered with Lyft, announced that it would offer robotaxi rides in Silicon Valley 24/7.
