The Internet Association of Ukraine professes the creation of a coordination council on the submission of an application to an international company ICANN which regulates the registration of domain names to receive a Cyrillic domain for Ukraine.
Tetiana Popova, board chairperson of Internet Association of Ukraine, told this to Ukrainian News.
According to her, the coordination council can be created on the base of the State Committee for Informatization in May already.
“If late in May or early in June the coordination committee is established and required decisions are endorsed by it, it is a realistic expectation to receive a domain in ICANN within three-six months,” said Popova.
She believes that the budget of the introduction of the Cyrillic domain can make UAH 2 million.
In November 2009, the Ukrainian Network Information Center submitted an application to receive the “укр” Cyrillic domain name. However, the State Committee for Informatization requested ICANN in December-January to suspend the application.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in November 2009, the Ukrainian Network Information Center predicted registration of the “укр” Cyrillic domain name in the first quarter of 2010.
