Instagram is testing a button that will lower the rating of comments

Instagram is starting to test a button that “gives people a private way to signal that they don’t like a particular comment,” according to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri in a post on Threads. The button, based on a screenshot of a Threads user, is a downward arrow next to the “Like” button in comments.

However, according to Mosseri, if you see this button and click it, people won’t know you did it and no dislike count will be shown. However, “over time, we may integrate this signal into the comment ranking to move disliked comments down,” Mosseri says. “We hope this will help make Instagram comments more friendly.”

“We’re working on ways to help people take better control of their Instagram experience and what they see on the app,” Instagram spokesperson Kristin Pai said in a statement. “We’re testing a new button next to each comment on a post in Reel or Feed so that people can privately report that they don’t like the comment or that it’s not relevant, first with a small group of people. Later, we can also test moving these comments lower in the comments section to create a better experience.”
