Currently, Huawei is the only brand that has released a triple-fold phone. And if the latest rumors are to be believed, its successor is also just around the corner.
According to insider Fixed Focus Digital, the company’s next generation triple-foldable smartphone, expected to be released under the name Mate XT 2, will be unveiled on September 10. This is almost exactly one year after the debut of the first triple-foldable Mate XT smartphone.
Mate XT 2 may hit the market at the same time as the iPhone 17
If the date is accurate, the launch will coincide with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 event, which is rumored to take place on September 9 or 10.
The timing also seems quite deliberate. Huawei and Apple have been competing with each other for years, especially in China, and the successive presentations will be another high-profile confrontation.
Over the past few weeks, numerous leaks have indicated that Huawei’s next foldable flagship will be unveiled in early to mid-September. Previously, there were rumors that the presentation would take place on September 12, but Fixed Focus Digital now claims that the company plans to hold it on September 10. This date coincides with the date Huawei used last year to present the Mate XT Ultimate Design edition.
Huawei has not yet officially confirmed any information about the Mate XT 2, and we still do not know what changes it will bring compared to the first-generation model.
The original Mate XT featured a tri-fold design that unfolded into a tablet-sized display and attracted a lot of attention in China, even managing to steal some of the spotlight from the local debut of the iPhone 16.
Now, with rumors circulating that its successor will be released alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, Huawei may be preparing to repeat its success. It is expected to be available in Mystic Black, Auspicious Red, Crimson Purple, and Bright White.
