Huawei OceanStor Dorado All-Flash is the world’s first storage solution to be certified by DEKRA for compliance with the ISO14067 carbon footprint standard, as well as DEKRA Seal certificates that can be applied to products.
DEKRA is one of the world’s leading expert organizations in the field of testing, verification and certification. This new achievement by Huawei reflects the environmental innovations implemented in Huawei All-Flash storage systems and marks a significant step forward for Huawei in energy conservation and emissions reduction.
By 2025, data center energy consumption will account for 4.5% of total global energy consumption, so energy-efficient data centers are crucial to global decarbonization. At the same time, storage is becoming the most energy-intensive component of IT infrastructure due to the growth of data volumes.
Carbon footprint
The carbon footprint of a product is the greenhouse gas emissions that the product “produces” during its life cycle. Many countries and organizations have developed standards for carbon footprint accounting, and some have even passed laws to implement carbon sealing systems.
DEKRA’s team of experts measured and verified the carbon footprint of Huawei OceanStor Dorado All-Flash throughout its entire life cycle in accordance with the ISO14067:2018 standard. DEKRA notes that Huawei’s product not only meets the standard: its carbon reduction and energy saving technologies are industry-leading.
“In line with the global consensus on the need for green development, Huawei is committed to helping society achieve sustainable development through technological innovation,” said Pang Xin, vice president of Huawei Data Storage Production Line, during the certificate award ceremony held in Shenzhen on July 28.
According to him, Huawei is implementing the concept of circular economy into the full life cycle of OceanStor All-Flash Storage products to provide green storage for enterprises. Therefore, the receipt of the DEKRA Storage Product Carbon Footprint and DEKRA Seal certificates confirms Huawei’s active participation in the implementation of the green development concept in practice.

“Huawei products and solutions are used all over the world. The Huawei OceanStor All-Flash system has received the world’s first DEKRA Storage Product Carbon Footprint and DEKRA Seal certifications, which is an excellent example of the development of energy-saving technologies in the storage industry,” said Frank Hua, Vice President of Automotive and Industrial Services at DEKRA China.
He emphasized that DEKRA is committed to promoting environmental and sustainable development of enterprises, and will cooperate with Huawei to move towards low-carbon development and build a green future.
In the future, energy-saving storage technologies, including low-power media, data-driven computing, and intelligent software and hardware synergistic configuration and management, will help achieve optimal energy efficiency with minimal carbon emissions.
