On the morning of December 12, Kyivstar’s communications network was the target of a powerful hacker attack that caused a technical failure that temporarily disrupted communications and Internet access.
This was reported by the company’s press service.
To record the circumstances and consequences of the unlawful actions aimed at interfering with Kyivstar’s network, the operator engaged representatives of law enforcement agencies and special state services who are currently working in the company’s office.
As of now, it is known that the personal data of subscribers has not been compromised. At present, the operator’s specialists are working to eliminate the consequences of the hacker attack to restore communication and services as soon as possible.
Kyivstar apologizes to its subscribers for the inconvenience and thanks them for their understanding. The company promises to provide compensation to subscribers who had no connection or could not use the operator’s services.
HiTech Expert suggests that it could have been a powerful attack by Kremlin hackers, who during the war increased the intensity of attacks on government agencies and major companies in Ukraine.
This assumption is confirmed by military communications expert Serhiy Flesh: “Unfortunately, Russian hackers have done a lot of damage to Kyivstar. The technicians are working on a solution, but I’m afraid they won’t be able to restore the network quickly. This is the first such strong hacker attack in the history of mobile communications in Ukraine.”
