Google's Pixel fixes issue with unresponsive buttons

This August, Google will release a monthly software update that will fix a bug that caused some Pixel users to not respond to pressing three buttons on their devices. According to The Verge, since the company released Android 16 in June, Pixel users have reported that their buttons are unresponsive or that it takes up to 30 seconds for their device to register a touch. Some say they have to press the Back button multiple times to get the three-button menu to work. Users of all Pixel models, including the latest Pixel 9 line, have reported these and other similar issues. Some have also reported issues with gesture navigation, such as the swipe gesture not working at all.

In a statement, Google said that the update contains “fixes for 3-button and gesture navigation issues under certain conditions.” The update also includes a “fix for an issue where the scheduled dark theme did not work under certain conditions,” so users had to manually turn on the dark mode. This is another issue that some users have been experiencing since the March Pixel update. The August Pixel update will be available for all Android 16 devices, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 8 lineup. Google has said that the update will be rolled out in phases over the next week, so some users may have to wait a bit before they can download and install it.
