Google continues to improve its AI Mode by providing more capabilities to its dedicated search chatbot. Today, the company is adding the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and deep search feature to AI Mode. These features will be available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Although both of these tools can still be accessed in other ways, Google’s decision to integrate them into the chatbot points to the ultimate goal of making AI mode the main form of interaction with the company’s signature search service.
These changes are a continuation of the announcements made during the Google I/O conference this spring. The AI mode was rolled out to all Google users in May, and at the same time, Deep Think was announced as an option for the Gemini 2.5 Pro model.
In addition to the AI mode, search received a small update. Another AI tool that was teased during I/O was Gemini’s ability to make phone calls from Project Astra. This agent option will appear, albeit in a limited form. To begin with, it will only be able to contact local businesses, and its topics will be limited to inquiries about availability and pricing. When a person searches for companies or services, they may see an option to “Let AI check prices” that initiates a call to that business. These AI phone calls are currently available to all Search users, but Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will have higher limits.
