G410 video intercom from Aqara is already available for sale

The successor to Aqara’s popular G4 video doorbell is now available. Announced in January, the $129.99 G410 remains one of the few (only?) doorbells to support Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video, wireless and wired connectivity, and a host of new features, making it one of the most powerful subscription-free video doorbells on the market. It also functions as a multi-protocol hub that can help smart homes easily transition to Matter.

Aqara G410 adds 2K video in 4:3 aspect ratio with a wide 175-degree field of view and end-to-end encryption of live and recorded video. It is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread radios. This means that it can function as an Aqara hub, Thread edge router and Matter controller that supports the full range of Zigbee accessories from Aqara and the growing list of third-party Matter-over-Thread and Matter-over-Wi-Fi devices sold by Aqara and soon even Ikea.

It’s also one of the first doorbells to feature an mmWave sensor for more accurate occupancy detection, with on-device facial recognition to trigger notifications or automation. Advanced Matter Bridging allows it to share facial recognition with Matter platforms, such as Home Assistant, for even greater automation capabilities.

You can send the G410’s video stream over your local network to platforms such as Home Assistant that support Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP). It can also be streamed to Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThing displays, or of course, to the Aqara S1 Plus seven-inch panel hub.

Aqara does not impose recurring fees on its doorbells, which is one of the reasons for their popularity. Notably, the wired installation of the G410 supports continuous round-the-clock recording on 512 GB (max.) MicroSD cards that are inserted into the 95 dB indoor doorbell hub that comes with the camera. Optionally, video can be synchronized with NAS storage located on your home network. Aqara does offer a subscription to unlock advanced features, but most people can ignore it, as I’m currently doing with my old G4 doorbell.
