Remote SIM card replacement is used by criminals to gain access to financial phone numbers and further misappropriate money from victims’ bank accounts.
How it works
You receive several calls on behalf of taxi services or various organizations and are persuaded to call back. Next, they order a SIM card recovery service from the operator, using the phone numbers from which the callers previously called to identify the subscriber.
Sometimes, the criminals even transfer small amounts of money to your mobile account to find out exactly when you last made a deposit.
If you notice any suspicious signs, immediately notify your mobile operator.
How to protect yourself
To protect yourself from such fraudulent schemes, you should follow the following recommendations:
- prohibit remote SIM card replacement or switch to a contract service with your mobile operator;
- use only the official application of your bank;
- regularly review your transaction history;
- do not make payments from other people’s devices.
Attention!
Cyberpolice reminds you what information should not be disclosed to outsiders:
- PIN, CVV and expiration date of the bank card;
- codes from SMS that can be used to confirm transactions;
- password for online banking or codes from SMS from the operator.
For online payments, it is better to have a separate card with set payment limits. Don’t give fraudsters a chance to deceive you!
