Meta is adding a new incentive to encourage people to create and share photos and videos on Facebook. Today, the company announced that authors who participate in Facebook’s Content Monetization program can now earn money from views of their stories on Facebook.
Since you can already easily share the photos and videos you post to your stories, this should be an easy way to make a little extra money from the content you share on Facebook. According to Meta, the ability to earn money from stories is available worldwide, although it is performance-based and stories must be publicly available to monetize. Authors who are not yet participating in the content monetization program can apply for consideration right now on Meta’s website.
The new payment option is just the latest attempt by Meta to encourage authors to publish content on Facebook instead of Instagram or competing apps. In January, the company debuted a “breakthrough bonus program” that offered an additional $5,000 to authors already present on another social platform for posting a certain number of photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook.
The timing of the program’s launch made it clear that Meta was interested in luring authors who would soon lose access to TikTok. The temporary rescue of the app by the Trump administration has made the need for an exit somewhat less urgent, but Meta is clearly still looking to capitalize on the chaos as much as it can.
