A few days after Elon Musk unveiled the AI companion “waifu” for Grok, he is now officially teasing a male version for women. So far, we can say that he’s brooding and dark-haired, and, according to Musk, “his personality is inspired by Edward Cullen from Twilight and Christian Grey from 50 Shades.”
This is clearly different from the cute “girl who’s obsessed with you” aura that characterized Anya, the female counterpart that Grok released just a few days ago. While Cullen and Grey have thrilled readers of romantic and “spicy” books for years, they have both been criticized for problematic behaviors such as stalking, obsessive following of their love interests, and emotional manipulation. Given that Grok only created the illusion of protective barriers for Ani, what could have gone wrong?
During my testing, Ani initially claimed that overt sexual requests were not part of her program. In practice, however, she encouraged me to “turn up the heat” and participate in what ended up being a modern version of a phone sex line. Despite the fact that Anya allegedly has an NSFW version where she dances in her underwear.
It remains to be seen whether Musk knows that Christian Grey is based on Edward Cullen, given that 50 Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fanfic. Nevertheless, this AI guy is still in development. Perhaps Musk and xAI will give him more masculine qualities by the time he is launched.
Musk is currently collecting names for the male companion, which is likely to be Kyle, as it is obviously inspired by the anime Kylo Ren from Star Wars.
