DOGE has created a tool to eliminate regulations

The Department of Government Efficiency hopes to use a new artificial intelligence tool to abolish half of the federal government’s regulatory powers, The Washington Post reports.

Citing a July 1 PowerPoint presentation, the newspaper reports that the DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool is supposed to analyze about 200,000 federal regulations and identify those that are no longer legally required, with the goal of eliminating half of them by the first anniversary of President Donald Trump’s return to office.

It appears that this work is already underway, as the presentation stated that the tool has already been used to review regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and to write “100% deregulation” at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

A White House official told The Post that “no plan has been approved or endorsed,” but praised the DOGE team as “the best and brightest in the business.”

This is just the latest artificial intelligence tool developed by DOGE (which was headed by Elon Musk in the early months of the Trump administration), including one reportedly error-prone tool that can hallucinate the size of Veterans Affairs contracts.
