3gThe National Communications Regulatory Commission by September will form a workgroup on a tender for selling licences for UMTS (3G) mobile communications, Ukrainian News has learned from a well-informed source.

The source says the working group will include executives from central power bodies, including representatives from the Defence Ministry.

The source disclosed no other details.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Kyivstar mobile communications operator in July claimed resumption of talks between the Communications Commission and communications operators on selling 3G licences.

In April, the Communications Commission predicted the tender for selling 3G licences to be held not before autumn.

On November 27, 2009 the Commission cancelled a tender for selling 3G mobile communications licences on demand of the Prosecutor-General’s Office.

This was a result of then president Viktor Yuschenko’s suspension of the effect of the Cabinet of Ministers’ executive order by which the government instructed the Communications Commission to hold auctions to sell licences for 3G mobile communications on the radio frequencies used by the defence ministry at the moment.
