Digital Chat Station has previously revealed that Xiaomi is working on its first flip smartphone, which will debut in 2024. The leak occurred shortly after the launch of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 smartphone in China in August 2023. Along with the smartphone, Xiaomi debuted many devices, including the Redmi K60 Ultra. The company has confirmed that the Redmi K70 series will soon debut in China. A Chinese informant shared some specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi MIX Flip folding smartphone.
Xiaomi MIX Flip debuts with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
The informant confirms that Xiaomi will release a pair of smartphones with Qualcomm’s flagship 2022 chipset, i.e. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Le Weibin, the president of Xiaomi, recently hinted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will be powered by the upcoming vanilla Redmi K70. The Xiaomi president predicts that the chipset will be widely used, similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC.
The first generation of Qualcomm 8th Generation processors could have performed better in terms of efficiency and heat. The next Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC corrected all these problems to some extent. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has significantly improved performance and efficiency. For those who don’t know, the SoC 8 Gen 2 is built on TSMC’s 4nm process.
The chipset has one Cortex-X3 core with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz, two Cortex-A715 cores with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz, two Cortex-A710 cores with a clock speed of 2.8 GHz, three Cortex-A510 cores with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, and an Adreno 740 graphics processor. In addition, the source adds that Xiaomi will release a tablet and a small folding device based on the 8th Generation SoC 2. The small folding device mentioned by the informant is most likely the upcoming Xiaomi MIX Flip smartphone.
The upcoming smartphone has been included in the IMEI certification list under the model number 2311BPN23C. Digital Chat Station previously confirmed that Xiaomi will release the smartphone in 2024. He also added that Xiaomi will equip the Xiaomi MIX Flip smartphone with Qualcomm SoC. The upcoming folding smartphone is likely to compete with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, OPPO Find N3 Flip, Moto Razr 40, and other folding smartphones.
The tablet in question is likely to be the upcoming Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro. Xiaomi intends to equip the tablet with an LCD panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a square-shaped camera module. GSMChina shared a schematic rendering of the upcoming MIX Flip folding smartphone.
The rendering shows that Xiaomi will equip the device with a triple rear camera. They will include a telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.
