Chinese scientistsmake a breakthrough in the efficiency of dynamic wireless charging

A Chinese research team has achieved a significant breakthrough in wireless power transmission and positioning, the results of which have been published in the international scientific journal Nature Communications.

As the rapid development of smart devices utilizing technologies such as the Internet of Things, smart homes, drones, and wearables continues, providing reliable and sustainable power to these devices has become a pressing technological challenge. Traditional wireless charging relies on close proximity and powerful electromagnetic induction, which is limited by spatial, environmental, and hardware constraints.

A team from Xidian University’s School of Electronic Engineering has successfully developed a prototype system based on dual-frequency metasurfaces for wireless energy transfer, sensing, positioning, and communication. This system allows adaptive tracking of wireless energy transfer, potentially making dynamic wireless charging more efficient.

According to team leader Li Long, the technology can intelligently adjust electromagnetic wave transmission parameters, optimizing wireless power transmission efficiency in real time based on changes in the environment and device requirements.

Compared to traditional wireless charging methods, the new technology has significant advantages. It supports efficient contactless wireless charging for multiple terminal devices on the move, such as drones and smart robots, providing stable and efficient power and thus overcoming the limitations of traditional wireless charging technology.
