Chegg sues Google over AI review

Online education company Chegg filed a lawsuit against Google on February 24, claiming that AI-generated summaries of search results hurt its traffic and revenue, Reuters reports. This is believed to be the first antitrust lawsuit filed by a single company over the AI Overviews feature, Reuters notes.

Chegg claims that Google is using its monopoly power to force companies to use their content for AI Overviews, “reaping the financial benefits of Chegg’s content without spending a dime,” CEO Nathan Schultz said in prepared remarks to investors. Chegg, which offers textbook rentals and homework help, is currently considering a takeover and, as a result, going private.
