Blizzard stops supporting its mobile game Warcraft

The dismissal of about 9,000 Microsoft employees continues to have consequences for the company’s subsidiaries. Aftermath reports that the layoffs affected 100 Blizzard developers, and as a result, the studio is stopping development of the mobile tower defense game Warcraft Rumble.

In its message, Blizzard wrote that although the game will not be completely abandoned, the company will stop developing any new content. “Moving forward, we will continue to support Rumble with updates focused on regular, systematic in-game events and bug fixes, but no new content. ”

Blizzard continued, saying that Rumble “struggled to find its footing compared to our ambitions for its long-term success.” And while its developers worked to respond to player feedback, it “ultimately wasn’t enough to put the game on a sustainable path.”

Warcraft Rumble was the first game in the Warcraft universe to be focused on mobile devices. It was released in 2023 after nine years of development and was originally one of two mobile games Blizzard was working on, the other being Pokémon Go. This game was never officially announced by Blizzard and was canceled sometime in 2022. Warcraft Rumble joined several other Blizzard games that are stagnating, along with Starcraft II and Heroes of the Storm.

Earlier today, Xbox also announced that it is canceling the Rare-developed Everwild game as well as the Perfect Dark remake, closing The Initiative studio that developed them.
