The Asus company recently confirmed that it will introduce the ROG Phone 8 series of gaming phones on January 8. In China, the brand is going to introduce the ROG Phone 8 line on January 16. Long before the launch, WindowsReport published a report leaking renders and full specifications of the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro. Here’s a look at what to expect from both smartphones.
Design of the Asus ROG Phone 8 series
The leaked renders show that the upcoming ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro mark a significant departure from the traditional rigid gaming phone design of its predecessors. The front panel now features a modern perforated display, while the back boasts a prominent camera module in the upper right corner. The rear panel also features an RGB-backlit logo and gaming mottos. The report notes that the ROG Phone 8 has a matte finish on the back, while the Pro variant looks premium with a glossy back. Specifications of Asus ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro (rumored)
According to the report, the ROG Phone 8 series will feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, equipped with a 5500 mAh battery with 65W charging capability, according to 3C certification. Additional features include a fingerprint sensor on the display, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a 5-magnet speaker.
In terms of connectivity, the ROG Phone 8 series offers Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The phones will run on Android 14 with the ROG UI interface. Notably, both models feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and IP68 rating. Both phones will be available in Rebel Grey as well as other colors.
The standard ROG Phone 8 comes with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the ROG Phone 8 Pro offers a choice of 16GB or 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The rear camera of the Pro version has a 32-megapixel selfie camera and a rear configuration consisting of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The standard version has a matte finish, while the Pro version has a glossy, premium look. It measures 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm and weighs 225 grams. There is currently no information on the cameras or dimensions of the standard model.
In addition, the ROG Phone 8 series will come with an Aero Case and a bundled fast charger. Asus will also offer gaming accessories such as the DEVILCASE Guardian phone case with AeroActive Cooler X support, as shown in the image above.
