Apple is working on the next generation of the AirPods Pro, and according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it could include new health features. In his Power On newsletter published this weekend, Gurman reports that Apple is testing features such as temperature measurement and heart rate monitoring for the headphones. So far, Apple has found that the Apple Watch is still better at the latter, but the AirPods are “not too far behind” in terms of performance, he writes.
The company has also reportedly returned to the idea of building cameras into AirPods, a rumor we’ve heard several times over the past year. According to Gurman, Apple now considers this a “priority” as it works to strengthen its AI services. But it will likely be years before the camera-equipped AirPods make their debut. As for heart rate monitoring, it could come much sooner. Gurman writes: “This feature may appear in the next-generation AirPods Pro headphones, which are in early development.”
