The iPhone 17 series is still a few months away from launch, but a major camera redesign could be on the horizon. Leaker Majin Bu has shared CAD renders of what are likely to be the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone 17 Air – the latter three models have rectangular pixel-like camera panels.
The new CAD renders show that the rear camera panels on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models have been stretched to expand their current square design, which now covers the entire top of the body. They still retain the rounded edges seen on current models. The 17 “Air” has a similar design, albeit with a single rear camera lens. According to these renders, the camera module on the standard iPhone 17 model will remain virtually unchanged, which distinguishes it from the premium models.
Majin Boo is a well-known leaker, but as MacRumors notes, the information he has shared has not always been correct. These renders are just a few of several similar leaks of information about the iPhone 17’s rectangular camera panel over the past few months, but concept designs have also been shared by Front Page Tech host Jon Prosser and other leakers including Ice Universe, Fixed Focus Digital, and Digital Chat Station.
In January, Majin Boo also published images of iPhone cases that are claimed to be “part” of the iPhone 17 family. The design is similar to the iPhone “Air” rendering he shared yesterday, and resembles the pill-shaped camera panel found on Google’s Pixel 9 line. Rumors of the so-called iPhone 17 Air have been circulating for months now, describing a new, thinner model that is expected to join the upcoming iPhone lineup, much like Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge.
This is just the beginning, and these leaks should not be taken as the truth in the last resort. We won’t know the official design of the iPhone 17 until Apple reveals it later this year, with an announcement expected sometime in September.
