Owners of some early Apple Watch models may be eligible for a $20 million class action settlement. Apple recently agreed to settle a lawsuit that alleged that some first-generation Apple Watch models, Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3, had battery bloat issues that could lead to damage to the devices. The company denied any wrongdoing and said in a statement to TechCrunch that it “strongly” disagreed with the claims made in the lawsuit, but nevertheless “agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation.” The exact amount of the payout will depend on how many plaintiffs are ultimately involved, but it is expected to be between $20 and $50 per eligible device.
The class action website has full details on eligibility and deadlines, but the main thing to know is that to be eligible for a payout, you must have reported the problem to Apple in the US between April 24, 2015 and February 6, 2024. “Settlement class members will receive a payment without having to file a claim,” the website says. You simply need to submit your payment information through the settlement website (here) by April 10. Notification of eligibility will be sent by mail and email.
