A few months ago, Apple started rolling out its latest generation of iOS 17, macOS 14, and watchOS 10 to its devices worldwide. Recently, the company announced the latest iOS 17.1.1 update, which addressed several issues. While users are updating their devices to the latest software versions, the Cupertino-based tech giant is already working on the next iterations of the operating systems for different devices. However, according to the reliable Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, this process has been put on hold.

Apple has encountered many bugs in the current generation software versions for its devices. Therefore, the company has suspended the development of iOS 18 and macOS 15 for a week. Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Development Craig Federighi informed the teams working on the new operating system about the decision to stop the development process. In addition, sources told Gurman that a team of engineers led by Federighi found too many bugs that were missed during internal testing.
Apple reportedly completed work on M1 versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 18 last month. The relevant team was transitioning to the M2 version when development was halted. M1 and M2 are milestones in development cycles and do not refer to the M1 and M2 chipsets.
The pause in development of the next iteration of iOS 18 and macOS 15 is expected to last only a few days. This is good news, as Apple prioritizes fixing bugs and issues. The report says that the delay is not likely to affect the release schedule of iOS 18 and macOS 18.
