Amazon launches Alexa.com and a new app for Alexa Plus

Amazon is updating the alexa.com website and the Alexa mobile app so that Alexa Plus subscribers can use the updated AI-powered voice assistant. We don’t have many details, but the website and app could be convenient new ways to interact with the updated Alexa, as announced at an event this morning.

At the event, Amazon showed how you’ll be able to communicate with Alexa Plus about things like ordering groceries, controlling smart home devices, and even finding out if someone in your home has walked the dog by looking at your home camera footage. Amazon has also demonstrated how Alexa Plus can analyze and summarize documents, and it’s possible that the new website and app will be used to download this information.

You will be able to access Alexa Plus from the current Alexa app – there is no need to download a new app, confirmed company spokesperson Devon Corvasce. When we first published this article, alexa.com simply redirected you to a page to learn more about Alexa and access Alexa mobile apps, but now it redirects you to a page about Alexa Plus.

It looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the new website and app to become available to the general public. Amazon says that Alexa Plus will first be available in the US “over the next few weeks” and then “in waves over the coming months”. Alexa Plus will cost $19.99 per month or will also be available as part of a Prime membership.
