Amazon is testing new AI-generated audio summaries that allow you to listen to a conversation between two “hosts” talking about product features. In addition to product information, the AI-generated audio summaries also draw on user reviews and information from the Internet.
This feature is currently available for some products on the Amazon mobile app, including the Ninja Blender, OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil, SHOKZ OpenRun Pro Treadmill, and SafeRest Waterproof Mattress Protector. You can try them out by clicking the “Hear the Highlights” button below the product.
Audio reviews start with a “friendly reminder” that you’re listening to an AI-generated video, followed by an introduction of an AI “expert” presenter who is supposed to talk you through the product’s features. This is similar to Google’s AI-generated audio reviews, in which two hosts discuss your research, documents, or slides in a podcast-like format.
In the video for SHOKZ OpenRun Pro, the AI introduces us to “Max,” who says that the main difference between these headphones is that they “conduct sound through your cheekbones, not into your ears.” The AI host goes on to ask questions about the headphones, such as who might benefit from this design and whether the sound quality is up to par.
“While the microphone has been praised for its noise cancellation, some users feel that it is not loud enough to fully immerse themselves in music,” says AI ‘expert’ Max. “But customers note that in certain situations they are better than headphones.”
Currently, Amazon’s AI-generated audio summaries are only available to some customers in the US, but the company plans to make them available to more products and customers in the “coming months.”
