The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council has selected via a competition 17 television companies to broadcast on 89 television channels.
The council closed on January 27 its meeting that began on December 16 (but was not closed because of a court ruling) and determined the winners of a competition for licenses to broadcast on free television channels.
The council licensed the TeleRadioSvit television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 33 television channels, it licensed the NBM television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 17 television channels, it licensed the Hravis television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 2 television channels, it licensed the Novyi Kanal television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 2 television channels, and licensed the Sluzhba Informatsii television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 9 television channels.
The council also licensed the Multi Media Service television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 3 television channels, it licensed the International Media Center-STB television company to broadcast on 2 television channels, it licensed the Express Inform television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 9 television channels, and licensed the Kyivtelemontazh television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 4 television channels.
The council also licensed the Tonis television company (Kyiv) to broadcast on 2 television channels, it licensed the Kino TV and Intervideo Kyiv (Kyiv) television companies to broadcast on 2 television channels each, licensed the TeleRadioMerezha television company (Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region), the Korostentelebacheniia television company (Korosten, Zhytomyr region), the Nemo television company (Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region), the Rhythm television company (Rivne), and the Podolianin TV television company (Khmelnytskyi region) to broadcast on 1 television channel each.
None of the television companies obtained a license to broadcast on more than one television channel in one city.
Only the NBM television company was licensed to broadcast on the channel 60 in Kyiv; all the other companies obtained licenses to broadcast on channels in other countries.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council organized a competition for licenses to broadcast on 47 television channels and 32 radio channels in October 2009.
