Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has strongly refuted claims that Artificial Intelligence poses an existential threat to humanity, labeling such predictions as fabricated and sensationalist clickbait.

AI Apocalypse is “Made Up” Says Nvidia CEO

Speaking at a company conference in Berlin, as reported by AFP on October 22nd, Huang emphasized that the narrative of AI leading to the end of human civilization is baseless. “When you hear that AI will end the human race, please do not believe it. These statements are made up and cheap hype to get headlines, but they are not true,” Huang stated.

This stance echoes sentiments he shared in a September interview with The New York Times, where he argued that public and industry fear surrounding AI has become excessive. At that time, Huang suggested that while AI might not replace entire professions in the immediate future, it would likely begin by automating specific tasks within jobs.

Challenging “10-Year Apocalypse” Predictions

Huang specifically addressed the views of some experts who predict AI could destroy humanity within a decade. He dismissed these forecasts as flawed and lacking scientific rigor. “All of their predictions are wrong. The so-called 10% probability has no scientific basis or research support… These predictions are only hurtful,” he remarked.

Instead of succumbing to fear, Huang urged a perspective of “responsible optimism” towards AI. He highlighted that now is the opportune moment to actively engage in “building artificial intelligence” if humanity is concerned about its future and sustainable development.

Huang’s remarks aim to temper the often-heated public discourse on AI safety, distinguishing between speculative doomsday scenarios and the practical, ongoing development of AI technologies. His emphasis is on proactive, responsible development rather than alarmist speculation.
