Konami has officially launched its latest entry in the legendary Castlevania series, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Developed in collaboration with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, this new 2D action-adventure game is now available on Steam with support for Simplified Chinese.
A New Chapter in the Belmont Saga
Set 23 years after the events of Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse, the game transports players to 1499 Paris. The city is under siege by monsters, and it falls upon Rose Belmont, the daughter of the famed hero Trevor Belmont, to uncover the source of this new calamity. As Rose delves into the city’s shadowed streets, battling creatures of the night, she becomes entangled in a dark conspiracy lurking beneath the surface.
Innovative Gameplay Mechanics
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse introduces several key gameplay innovations:
- Evolved Whip Action: The series’ iconic whip combat has been enhanced. The sacred whip now functions as a grappling hook, allowing for dynamic traversal across levels and enabling special attacks against enemies.
- Tarot Mystic System: Players can seal classic and new bosses within tarot cards after defeating them. These cards transform into arcane magic, and some bosses, upon defeat, will unlock narrative progression through dialogue.
- Rich Customization: The game boasts an impressive array of 28 collectible weapons across seven categories. Combined with the ‘Magidoll’ system, players can craft unique and personalized combat styles to suit their preferences.
Editions and Pricing
Two editions of the game are available on Steam’s Chinese region:
- Standard Edition: Priced at ¥128, this edition includes the base game.
- Midnight Edition: Available for ¥168, this version comes with the base game, a digital soundtrack, and an artbook. It also includes three in-game bonuses: Trevor-style attire, Sypha-style attire, and a ‘Relatives Portrait’ (Magidoll).
