The beloved Cookie Run universe is heading to the big screen! Korean gaming giant Devsisters has officially announced a major collaboration with Hollywood studio Big Shot Pictures to develop a feature-length animated film. The movie is slated for a worldwide theatrical release in 2029, coinciding with the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

From Mobile Game to Hollywood Blockbuster

Big Shot Pictures will spearhead the production, with Devsisters playing a key role in shaping the core creative direction of the film. The studio was founded by Brian Robbins, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry who previously served as Co-CEO of Paramount Global and headed Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. Robbins established Big Shot Pictures after leaving Paramount in January 2026, positioning it as a family entertainment-focused animation company.

Big Shot Pictures has already secured a first-look deal for theatrical distribution with Sony Pictures Entertainment. The studio has also made strategic acquisitions, including the rights to the “Eloise” book series and a 25% stake in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise through a joint venture with Bagdasarian Productions. This strong backing suggests a significant commitment to high-quality animated productions.

The Sweet History of Cookie Run

The Cookie Run IP originated in 2009 with the launch of the mobile parkour game OvenBreak in South Korea. Inspired by the classic folk tale, the game centers on brave cookie characters escaping a witch’s oven to forge their own destinies. Over the years, the franchise has blossomed into a global brand, expanding beyond its initial game to encompass a variety of titles and experiences.

Notable entries in the Cookie Run saga include the wildly popular strategy RPG Cookie Run: Kingdom, the enduringly successful Cookie Run: OvenBreak, the more recent Cookie Run: Crumble, and a range of trading card games. This diverse portfolio has helped the IP reach a massive audience.

Global Reach and Future Plans

Devsisters shared impressive statistics highlighting the global appeal of Cookie Run. The IP has a presence in 248 countries and regions worldwide, with a cumulative user base exceeding 300 million players. North America emerged as the highest revenue-contributing market for the IP as of last year, with the United States alone accounting for 65% of global merchandise sales in 2025.

Furthermore, Cookie Run: Kingdom achieved notable recognition by being named one of YouTube’s Top 10 Trending Topics in the US for 2025, making it the only indie game to feature on the list. This underscores the game’s cultural impact and relevance.

A Double Celebration in 2029

The choice of 2029 for the animated film’s release is no accident. It marks the 20th anniversary of the Cookie Run IP, a significant milestone for Devsisters and its dedicated fanbase. Adding to the 20th-anniversary festivities, the company has also announced the upcoming release of the open-world adventure game, Cookie Run: New World, which is scheduled to launch on consoles, PC, and mobile platforms in the same year.

This dual celebration, with both a major film debut and a new flagship game, promises to make 2029 a landmark year for the Cookie Run franchise, solidifying its position as a major player in the global entertainment landscape.
