Dareu (达尔优) has officially unveiled its upcoming Ultra 68 keyboard, a product poised to shake up the market with its innovative modular design and versatile switch options. This creative keyboard allows users to seamlessly switch between two distinct layouts: the compact 68-key configuration and the slightly expanded 75-key layout.

A Modular Approach to the Fn Key Row

The standout feature of the Ultra 68 is its unique approach to the Function (Fn) key row. Dareu has implemented a modular design where the top row of keys connects to the main body of the keyboard via Pogo Pin metal contacts. This allows for interchangeable modules, offering users flexibility in customizing their typing experience.

Among the available modular accessories are standard keycaps for a traditional layout, and a distinctive 335 LED dot matrix screen module. Early indications also suggest the possibility of a touch-sensitive strip module, further expanding the customization potential.

Premium Build and Performance Features

Beyond its modularity, the Ultra 68 boasts a premium build. It features a full aluminum alloy body, providing a solid and durable foundation. Internally, an FR4 positioning plate is integrated to enhance typing feel and acoustics.

Performance is also a key focus, with the keyboard supporting an impressive 8kHz polling rate for ultra-responsive input. For users prioritizing speed, it also offers 0.01mm precision for its Rapid Trigger feature, minimizing latency for competitive gaming and fast typing.

Dual Switch Options: Magnetic or Inductive

Dareu is offering the Ultra 68 with two distinct switch types, catering to different user preferences:

  • Luban Magnetic Switches: These offer the familiar benefits of magnetic switches, such as adjustable actuation points and rapid reset capabilities, often favored by gamers for speed and responsiveness.
  • Kaihua Inductive Switches: These unique switches incorporate an 8000mAh battery directly into the switch mechanism. This suggests a potential for advanced features or extended battery life for wireless operation, although the exact implementation details for this inductive switch variant are still emerging.

The inclusion of both magnetic and inductive switch options, along with the modular Fn key area, positions the Dareu Ultra 68 as a highly customizable and feature-rich keyboard for enthusiasts seeking a personalized and high-performance typing and gaming experience.

Further details regarding pricing and official release dates are expected to be announced soon.
