Meituan, the popular Chinese on-demand delivery platform, is rolling out a new generation of its shared power banks, adhering to the latest national safety standards. These updated units are already appearing in physical locations, continuing Meituan’s signature bright yellow design.
Enhanced Safety and Performance
The new models, identified by the model number MT-E-8BDY1, are visually distinct with four power indicator lights on the side and clear markings indicating “22.5W Super Fast Charging” and the crucial CCC certification logo. This certification signifies compliance with the new national standard GB 47372-2026, officially titled the ‘Technical Specification for the Safety of Mobile Power Sources’.
Under the hood, these power banks are equipped with a 7500mAh battery cell, offering a rated energy of 27.75Wh. They support fast charging up to 22.5W, a significant upgrade for users needing a quick power boost. A key feature is the inclusion of both USB-C and Lightning built-in cables, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of mobile devices without users needing to carry their own cords.
New National Standard Implementation
The implementation of the new national standard, GB 47372-2026, is set for April 1, 2027. This standard introduces more stringent requirements across the board, focusing on critical areas such as battery cell safety, cycle life, anomaly logging, and product traceability. These upgrades are designed to enhance the overall safety and reliability of mobile power sources, especially in shared usage scenarios.
The gradual introduction of these new standard power banks by Meituan signifies a proactive approach to user safety and regulatory compliance. As these devices become more prevalent in daily consumer touchpoints, the expected safety enhancements will be more deeply integrated into everyday life.
The move by Meituan to adopt these new standards ahead of the official deadline demonstrates a commitment to providing safer and more reliable charging solutions. This initiative is expected to set a benchmark for other players in the shared power bank market, encouraging similar upgrades and contributing to a safer ecosystem for portable charging devices.
With the increasing reliance on mobile devices throughout the day, the availability of safe and efficient shared power banks is crucial. Meituan’s investment in upgrading its fleet to meet the new national standards is a positive development for consumers who use these services frequently in public spaces like train stations, airports, restaurants, and shopping malls.
Looking Ahead
As the 2027 deadline approaches, consumers can anticipate seeing more shared power bank services adopting similar safety features and performance upgrades. This proactive rollout by Meituan suggests that the market is responding well to the upcoming regulations, prioritizing user safety and device longevity. The integration of features like higher capacity cells, faster charging, and robust safety protocols will likely become standard across the industry.
The dual built-in cables (USB-C and Lightning) are a particularly user-friendly addition, addressing a common pain point for users who might forget their charging cables. This convenience, combined with enhanced safety, positions Meituan’s new power banks as a compelling option for on-the-go charging needs.
