KRAFTON has officially announced the termination of development for its upcoming title, “The Callisto Protocol”, a search-and-extract game that has been canceled before its official release.

The decision comes after a thorough evaluation of the project’s current development status and future trajectory. KRAFTON stated that the team concluded the existing direction would not result in a game capable of long-term player satisfaction. Therefore, the difficult decision to cease development was made. The company extended its gratitude to players who participated in the closed tests and provided valuable feedback, assuring that the experience gained during development and testing will be incorporated into future projects by PUBG Studios.

About “The Callisto Protocol”

“The Callisto Protocol” was envisioned as a first-person tactical extraction shooter. Players were set to enter a time-loop island known as ‘Coli’, where they would gather resources, engage in combat against both AI enemies and other players, and attempt to successfully extract. The game was designed with a PvPvE (Player versus Player versus Environment) mode, allowing up to 45 players to participate in squads of three per match.

Development History and Testing

The project underwent several rounds of closed testing. The initial closed Alpha test took place in December 2025. At that time, official statements indicated that player engagement exceeded expectations. However, player feedback also highlighted issues related to combat responsiveness, situational awareness on the battlefield, and fatigue from repetitive gameplay.

A second closed Alpha test was conducted from June 26th to June 29th, 2026. This phase allowed players to stream, record, and share their test content, providing broader visibility into the game’s progress.

Related Projects

This cancellation follows KRAFTON’s earlier decision this year to halt development on “PUBG: Blindspot”. Another distinct project, “PUBG: DED.NET”, which features Roguelike shooting gameplay, remains in development as a separate endeavor.
