Shenkaihong has announced a significant milestone for its KaihongOS desktop version (x86): the popular Chinese applications WPS, WeChat, and QQ are now officially supported. This integration has been achieved through Shenkaihong’s self-developed, non-containerized technical solution, which reportedly allows these mainstream applications to run with performance nearly indistinguishable from native execution.
Key Enhancements on KaihongOS
Beyond the integration of these widely used applications, the latest KaihongOS update brings several other improvements:
- Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates: The OTA functionality is now live, enabling users to upgrade their systems with a single click. This eliminates the need to download new system images, burn USB drives, and perform manual installations.
- Third-Party Application Growth: An additional 10 third-party native applications have been added to the app store, bringing the total to 16 applications. This expansion provides users with more choices and functionality within the KaihongOS ecosystem.
- Optimized Storage: The system has reduced the space occupied by the ESP partition, simplifying the installation process by removing unnecessary setup steps.
Ongoing Development and Beta Testing
Shenkaihong is actively developing and refining KaihongOS. Version 6.1 of KaihongOS is currently undergoing limited public beta testing.
This recent announcement follows a series of updates for the KaihongOS desktop (x86) version. In late June, version 5.0.2.30 was released, bringing upgrades to camera and document editing capabilities, alongside optimizations for video codec, resolution adjustment, and screen scaling.
Earlier updates also demonstrated the platform’s increasing compatibility. In early June, version 5.0.2.25 successfully adapted to the QEMU virtual machine. Furthermore, the version released in late May, 5.0.2.20, added support for AMD chip platforms, including integrated graphics on AMD Ryzen 2000G to 4000 series APUs and discrete graphics from RX 380 to RX 5000 series.
The rapid release cycle and continuous feature additions underscore Shenkaihong’s commitment to enhancing the KaihongOS experience and broadening its hardware and software compatibility.
