In a significant internal announcement on September 22nd, Xiaomi has promoted Luo Fuli, the head of its large model team, to level 22, the highest tier in the company’s professional ranking system. This promotion places Luo Fuli among the elite within Xiaomi’s organizational structure, with further career progression primarily defined by changes in role rather than rank.

Xiaomi’s AI Ambitions Soar

The promotion comes at a pivotal moment for Xiaomi’s artificial intelligence development. Just days earlier, on the same September 22nd, the company officially launched and open-sourced its cutting-edge Xiaomi MiMo-V2.6 series. This series includes two native full-modality models: Pro and Flash.

MiMo-V2.6 Sets New Open-Source Benchmark

The new MiMo-V2.6-Pro model has achieved remarkable results, scoring 46 points on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (AA Index) v4.3.2. This score surpasses notable competitors such as Kimi K3 (44 points) and GLM-5.3 (45 points), establishing it as the highest-ranked open-weight model on the AA Index currently. This represents a substantial leap from its predecessor, MiMo-V2.5-Pro, which scored 26 points, marking a 20-point improvement.

This advancement in AI capabilities is attributed, in part, to the expansion of RL (Reinforcement Learning) computing power, enabling the MiMo-V2.6 models to achieve superior performance.

Organizational Restructuring Fuels AI Growth

The recent organizational adjustments within Xiaomi, particularly concerning its AI assistant ‘Xiao Ai’, highlight the company’s strategic focus. In July, Xiaomi restructured the Xiao Ai team, dividing its technical capabilities into three core components:

  • Foundation Models: This crucial area is led by Luo Fuli’s MiMo team, responsible for developing the core AI models.
  • Cloud Capabilities: Engineering and development for cloud-based AI functionalities are managed by Luan Jian.
  • On-Device Capabilities: The OS teams for products like mobile phones and automobiles are tasked with integrating AI functionalities directly onto devices.

This multi-pronged approach allows Xiaomi to build powerful, versatile AI models while ensuring seamless integration across its diverse product ecosystem. Luo Fuli’s promotion to the highest rank underscores the critical importance of the foundation model division and her leadership in driving Xiaomi’s AI innovation forward.

The advancements in the MiMo series and the strategic elevation of key personnel signal Xiaomi’s strong commitment to competing at the forefront of artificial intelligence research and development. The company’s focus on open-sourcing its models also suggests a strategy to foster a wider ecosystem and accelerate AI progress through community collaboration.
