Global semiconductor giant Infineon Technologies has announced that its new power semiconductor factory in Thailand will officially commence operations on October 1st. This significant facility represents a total investment of $1.44 billion (approximately 9.69 billion RMB), aiming to become a key integrated power semiconductor node to fulfill global orders for power semiconductor devices.

State-of-the-Art Facility in Rayong

Located in Rayong, south of Bangkok, the plant is dedicated to backend processes and the production of power semiconductor modules. Construction for this advanced facility began in January 2025. Designed with automation and digitalization at its core, the new site will operate using 100% green electricity, underscoring Infineon’s commitment to sustainability.

Driving Innovation in Key Sectors

The factory’s output will primarily serve critical growth sectors, including new energy vehicles, renewable energy systems, and data centers. By enhancing its production capacity in Southeast Asia, Infineon aims to address the growing demand for power semiconductors in these rapidly expanding markets.

Boosting Local Economy and Talent

The project is set to create approximately 5,000 local jobs. In parallel, Infineon plans to implement talent development programs and foster local supply chain initiatives. This strategic move positions the Thai facility as Infineon’s third-largest power module production base globally, following its sites in Germany and China. It will play a crucial role in bridging the power semiconductor capacity gap in the Southeast Asian region.

Infineon’s Global Strategy

This expansion in Thailand is a key component of Infineon’s broader strategy to strengthen its global manufacturing footprint and ensure a resilient supply chain for its advanced power solutions. The company’s investment reflects confidence in the region’s potential and its ability to support high-tech manufacturing. The focus on green energy and digitalization highlights Infineon’s forward-looking approach to semiconductor production, aligning with global trends towards electrification and sustainability.

The commencement of operations at the Rayong plant is expected to have a ripple effect on the local economy, driving job creation and fostering technological expertise. Infineon’s commitment to integrating with the local ecosystem through talent and supply chain development further solidifies its long-term vision for the region.

As the demand for efficient power management solutions continues to surge across industries, Infineon’s expanded capacity in Thailand will be instrumental in meeting these needs. The company is poised to leverage this new facility to maintain its leadership in the power semiconductor market.
