SAIC’s MG brand has reached a significant production milestone, with the 200,000th MG4 vehicle rolling off the assembly line on September 23rd. The electric hatchback achieved this impressive feat in just over a year since its mass production began in August last year at the Jiangbei New Area base in Nanjing, Jiangsu.
Accelerating Production Pace
The production ramp-up for the MG4 has been remarkably swift. The first 100,000 units took approximately eight months to produce. Demonstrating a near-doubling of capacity, the second 100,000 units were completed in just four and a half months, highlighting the increasing efficiency and demand for the model.
2026 MG4 Enhancements
The 2026 model year MG4, which recently launched at the Beijing Auto Show, offers a competitive price range of 6.88-10.28万元 (approximately $9,500 – $14,200 USD) for its official guidance price, with a limited-time subsidy bringing the price down to 6.58-9.98万元 (approximately $9,100 – $13,800 USD).
This latest iteration continues the established MG family design language. Key updates for the 2026 model include two new exterior color options: Crystal Blue and Almond Cream. The front fascia features sleek, elongated headlights complemented by a black lower trim. The side profile sports traditional door handles and 17-inch star-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the design includes a rear spoiler and distinctive贯穿式 (through-type) taillight cluster.
Interior Tech and Safety Upgrades
Inside, the 2026 MG4 boasts an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch 2.5K central control screen. The vehicle integrates Horizon Robotics’ intelligent driving assistance solutions. Significant upgrades include an enhanced sentry mode for security and the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay, improving connectivity and user convenience.
Powertrain Options and Safety Features
MG4 offers customers a choice between a pure electric version and a version equipped with semi-solid-state batteries. The pure electric models are powered by a motor delivering a maximum power of 120 kW and a peak torque of 250 Nm. Battery options include 42.8kWh and 53.9kWh units, providing CLTC cycle ranges of 437km and 530km, respectively. The new “Anxin Edition” features semi-solid-state batteries for potentially improved performance and safety.
A notable standard safety feature across the new models is VMC (Vertical Movement Control) straight-line blowout control. This system is designed to enhance vehicle stability and prevent loss of control even in critical situations such as a high-speed tire blowout, further bolstering the MG4’s safety credentials.
