AMATA Games has officially announced Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies VR, a virtual reality adaptation of the beloved courtroom drama game. The title is set to launch in 2027 for the Meta Quest series and the new Meta VR Glasses platform.

First released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, Ace Attorney 5 marked the fifth main installment in the series. The original game saw defense attorney Phoenix Wright return to the courtroom after an eight-year hiatus. Alongside his colleagues, prosecutor-turned-defense-attorney Apollo Justice and rookie attorney Athena Cykes, they navigate a challenging period in the justice system known as the “dark age of the law,” where the pursuit of a guilty verdict often overshadows the quest for truth.

The VR version promises to retain the original narrative framework and its entire cast of characters. AMATA Games has also launched a preview website and the first trailer for the VR experience.

Immersive VR Gameplay

Players will have the option to control the game using either a traditional gamepad or through advanced hand-tracking technology. Interactions are designed to be intuitive, utilizing gestures like pinching and tapping. In the courtroom, players can directly present evidence to witnesses and famously shout “Objection!” This hands-on approach extends to the investigation phases, where players can search for clues from multiple angles within fully realized 3D crime scenes.

Familiar Systems Reimagined

Key gameplay mechanics from the original title, such as the “Magatama” (Psyche-Lock) system and the “Mood Matrix,” are set to be featured in the VR adaptation. The Magatama is used to detect inconsistencies and emotional contradictions in witness testimonies, while the Mood Matrix allows players to establish logical connections between various clues to deduce the truth.

Platform and Release Details

The VR game will be compatible with a range of Meta headsets, including the Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and the upcoming Quest 3S, as well as the new Meta VR Glasses. The estimated playtime for the game is over 15 hours.

The new Meta VR Glasses were also announced by Meta today, retailing at $1,299.99 USD and are expected to be available in Spring 2027. This new hardware may offer a glimpse into the immersive future intended for titles like Ace Attorney 5 VR.

Ace Attorney 5: Dual Destinies VR will support multiple languages, including Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, French, German, and Korean, catering to a global audience.
