The Chery Jaguar Land Rover FreeLander 8 has officially begun its delivery process today, marking a significant step for the new SUV. Launched on September 3rd, the vehicle garnered substantial interest, with over 5,000 firm orders placed in just 12 hours.

Pricing and Availability

The FreeLander 8 officially launched with a suggested retail price ranging from 309,900 to 399,900 yuan. However, with current purchase incentives, the actual selling price for customers falls between 289,900 and 379,900 yuan.

Design and Interior

Following the design language of the Concept 97, the FreeLander 8 boasts a robust and commanding exterior, characterized by sharp body lines that blend luxury with off-road prowess. The vehicle measures 5118mm (or 5185mm) in length, 2050mm in width, and 1898mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3040mm. It offers both five-seat and a 2+2+2 six-seat configurations.

Technological Integration with Huawei

A key highlight of the FreeLander 8 is its collaborative development involving FREELANDER, Huawei, CATL, and Qualcomm. The entire lineup is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade chip and comes standard with Huawei’s Kunlun Intelligent Driving ADS 5 system, integrated with an 800V high-voltage platform.

Inside, occupants are greeted by a large 15.6-inch Mini LED central control screen. For rear passengers, a 17.3-inch roof-mounted screen provides entertainment and connectivity options.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, all FreeLander 8 models are equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder range-extender engine featuring ENC (Engine Active Noise Cancellation) technology. This engine boasts a thermal efficiency of 45.79%, capable of generating 3.7 kWh of electricity from one liter of 92-octane gasoline.

The vehicle features a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system as standard across all trims, delivering a combined power output of 610kW and a peak torque of 813 N·m. This setup allows for a rapid 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.6 seconds.

Furthermore, the FreeLander 8 is the only vehicle in its class to come standard with a 250kW two-speed rear motor, offering a maximum wheel-end torque of 8000 N·m. This is complemented by standard ±10° rear-wheel steering, ensuring a turning radius of no more than 5.15 meters. The SUV also includes standard closed dual-chamber air suspension with CCD (Continuous Damping Control) adaptive shock absorbers and a front mechanical differential lock, enhancing both ride comfort and off-road capability.

Battery and Charging

The FreeLander 8 utilizes a dedicated all-terrain hybrid battery from CATL, the ‘Xiaoyao’ series, with a capacity of 60.3 kWh. This battery provides a CLTC pure electric range of 310km. The 800V high-voltage range-extender platform supports 6C charging, enabling a rapid 20% to 80% charge in as little as 12 minutes.
