Fujifilm has officially announced the release of two new additions to its popular Instax lineup: the instax Link WIDE 2 photo printer and the Instax Pal 2 digital camera. Both products are set to hit the Japanese market on October 9th, bringing new creative possibilities to instant photography enthusiasts.

Instax Link WIDE 2: Double the Fun with Wide Prints

The new instax Link WIDE 2 printer is designed to work with instax WIDE instant film, which boasts a print size twice as large as the standard instax Mini film. This larger format is perfect for capturing more of the scene or fitting more friends into group shots.

Visually, the Link WIDE 2 has received an aesthetic upgrade, available in two attractive color options: blue and brown. Beyond its looks, the accompanying smartphone app has gained a significant new feature called “Photo Mixer.” This intelligent tool automatically combines multiple images into a single collage, offering various design suggestions. Users can now creatively arrange several photos onto one WIDE print.

Adding to its versatility, the Link WIDE 2 incorporates an AI background removal function. This allows users to easily extract subjects or objects from their photos and integrate them into collage prints, creating personalized memory collections. The printer also offers seamless connectivity, enabling direct printing from smartphones, tablets, PCs, and even Fujifilm’s X Series cameras and the new Instax Pal 2. It also supports Google’s “Google Fast Pair Service” for simplified connection with compatible Pixel devices.

Instax Pal 2: Retro Charm Meets Digital Convenience

The Instax Pal 2 is a compact, pocket-sized digital camera that combines a charming retro design with modern digital features. It’s designed to be connected to smartphones and printers, allowing users to capture and then print their photos.

A standout feature of the Pal 2 is the new display screen on its top, which provides a viewfinder-like experience, reminiscent of waist-level finders on older cameras. Complementing this are physical controls like a dial and lever, giving users direct access to more camera parameters for a hands-on shooting experience. The camera’s semi-matte finish not only adds to its stylish aesthetic but also makes it a fashionable accessory, even when not in use for taking photos.

Under the hood, the Instax Pal 2 features a 1/3.06-inch, 10-megapixel sensor. Its internal storage can hold up to 100 photos, with the option to expand storage via a microSD card. The camera boasts several creative shooting modes. The “Y2K” mode is inspired by the aesthetics of old card cameras and film, while the “Vintage” mode offers a nostalgic and rich image style.

Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth and USB-C for linking to smartphones. A unique “instax Animation” mode can be activated by flicking a lever on the top right side of the camera towards the display. Holding down the shutter button initiates continuous shooting of up to 10 frames, which can then be compiled into a flip-book style animation, offering a fun, albeit slightly choppy, way to capture motion.

With these new releases, Fujifilm continues to innovate within the instant photography space, catering to both users who appreciate the convenience of app-connected printing and those who enjoy the tactile, creative experience of digital cameras with a retro flair.
