SAIC Volkswagen has officially kicked off blind pre-orders for its first all-electric model under the ID. ERA brand, the ‘super-powered pure electric SUV’ ID. ERA 5X. The announcement was made today, September 15th, via the official SAIC Volkswagen Weibo account.
While official pricing and launch details are yet to be disclosed, the company has shared key specifications for the upcoming vehicle. The ID. ERA 5X boasts a robust suite of intelligent driving features, including a 192-line lidar system and the Horizon Journey 6H chip. It comes standard with a 4nm automotive-grade MTK 8676 cockpit chip and is equipped with the ‘Xingyun Zhixing’ intelligent assisted driving system, offering an impressive 420 TOPS of computing power for its assisted driving capabilities.
Dimensions and Platform
The new SUV measures 4560mm in length, 1896mm in width, and 1630mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2815mm. The front and rear track widths are 1619mm and 1630mm, respectively, with front and rear overhangs of 875mm and 870mm.
Notably, the ID. ERA 5X is the first mass-produced Volkswagen vehicle globally to be built on the CMP platform and equipped with the CEA electronic and electrical architecture. This platform, developed specifically for the Chinese market, features a modular design aimed at enhancing interior space and reducing vehicle weight.
Powertrain and Battery
The assisted driving system is designed to achieve full-scenario L2++ urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) through a true end-to-end approach. The vehicle is powered by a pure electric system with a rated power of 63kW and a peak power of 155kW. It is paired with batteries from CATL, meeting the latest national standards.
The introduction of the ID. ERA 5X marks a significant step for SAIC Volkswagen in expanding its electric vehicle offerings and catering to the growing demand for advanced, intelligent SUVs in the Chinese market.
