Huawei Executive Director and Terminal BG Chairman, Yu Chengdong, has announced that pre-orders for the brand-new Luxeed R7 will commence this month. This marks a significant update for the electric coupe SUV, which Yu Chengdong himself has a personal connection with, having purchased one for his family after its 2024 launch.
A Car for Families, Built for the Long Haul
Yu Chengdong shared his personal experiences with the R7, detailing a 1,345 km journey from his hometown in Anhui to Shenzhen during the 2025 Spring Festival, a trip that took 15 hours and involved carrying a trunk full of local eggs. He also recounted a summer trip to Xinjiang, where he experienced a hot air balloon ride. These anecdotes highlight the R7’s suitability for long-distance travel and family use. He noted that a remarkable 80% of the over 120,000 current R7 owners are families, a statistic he finds unsurprising given the vehicle’s focus on comfort and driving enjoyment.
Eight Key Upgrades Driven by User Feedback
The latest iteration of the Luxeed R7 boasts eight major upgrades, developed with an investment of 500 million yuan, specifically targeting real-world family car scenarios. The interior space has been further optimized, and the seats have been redesigned with family needs in mind, aiming to create a warm and healing environment within the cabin. The refreshed R7 continues to balance a coupe-like stance with impressive range, now offering a CLTC pure electric range of up to 855 km. Huawei has also focused on enhancing the driving dynamics, with exclusive tuning applied to give the family SUV a sports coupe driving feel.
Technical Specifications and Design Details
The Luxeed R7, a joint venture between Huawei and Chery under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility brand, retains its OneBox design philosophy, which offered the largest interior space in the coupe SUV segment in 2024. Recent filings with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal three pure electric Luxeed R7 variants. These five-seater multi-purpose passenger vehicles are produced by Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. They measure 4982×1981×1634/1650mm with a wheelbase of 2950mm, and have a top speed of 200 km/h.
Vehicle weights range from 2220kg to 2340kg, with tire specifications including 20-inch and 21-inch options. Powering the R7 are drive motors from Huawei Digital Power Technology Co., Ltd. Single-motor versions deliver a peak power of 227kW, while the dual-motor version features a 150kW front motor and a 227kW rear motor. Battery options include ternary lithium batteries from Jiangsu CATL New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. for two variants, and a lithium iron phosphate battery from CALB Co., Ltd. for the third.
Enhanced Features and Interior Innovations
The new R7 offers a range of optional features, including various exterior trims, a streaming media rearview mirror, different wheel styles, upgraded braking systems, and optional ETC devices. The vehicle is also equipped with an automotive event data recorder (EDR). Spy shots and patent filings reveal design enhancements such as a more aesthetic hollowed-out car logo and a new side camera on the B-pillar. Interior details glimpsed through the windshield suggest a potential dual-screen setup. Previous reports and spy shots from sources like Autohome indicated significant interior changes, potentially including a center console screen paired with a passenger entertainment display, a larger steering wheel, a smaller digital instrument cluster, and redesigned air vents.
Zhao Changjiang, Executive Director and Executive Vice President of Luxeed Auto, had previously hinted at a facelifted R7 around October, following updates on user center store progress in July. With pre-orders starting this month, the updated Luxeed R7 is poised to build on its success as a comfortable, capable, and family-oriented electric coupe SUV.
