Didi Autonomous Driving has officially launched passenger-carrying testing for its next-generation Robotaxi, the R2, in select areas of Beijing and Guangzhou. This new model boasts significant upgrades in both autonomous driving performance and in-cabin experience, offering users a glimpse into the future of intelligent mobility.
A New Era for Autonomous Ride-Hailing
The R2, a collaboration between Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion, is specifically designed as a dedicated Robotaxi with global adaptability. It leverages Didi’s L4 full-stack hardware and software solution, integrating 33 sensors and a three-domain fusion computing platform. These advanced technologies enhance perception accuracy and the vehicle’s ability to navigate complex driving scenarios.
Safety is paramount, with the R2’s vehicle platform meeting both Chinese and European five-star safety standards, complemented by a multi-layered redundancy system. This ensures a secure and reliable ride for passengers.
Enhanced Passenger Comfort and Experience
Inside, the R2 prioritizes passenger comfort, featuring a maximized rear seating area with seats that offer a wide range of adjustments. A 17.3-inch overhead screen provides access to a variety of entertainment options. The cabin is also equipped with an AI voice interaction system that allows passengers to control various functions, such as verifying the last digit of their license plate, starting the trip, adjusting the climate control, opening windows, and controlling ambient lighting.
To further enhance the passenger experience, the R2 automatically opens its windows for ventilation before arrival, ensuring a comfortable environment upon entry. Features like an external screen for interaction, pre-setting cabin temperature and ambient lighting, and convenient car-finding functions like honking or voice commands are slated for future rollout.
