NTCU And Euronews TV Channel To Launch Round-The-Clock Ukrainian-Language Version Of Channel In 2011

    euronews1The National Television Company of Ukraine (NTCU) and Euronews TV channel will launch a round-the-clock Ukrainian-language version of this channel in 2011, reads a statement named by the NTCU.

    “The launch of the Ukrainian-language [round-the-clock] version of Euronews is planned for 2011,” it said.

    Euronews Managing Director Michael Peters and NTCU Director-General Yehor Benkendorf are intended to sign a relevant agreement on October 21 in Paris, France.

    “The head of the project’s coordination council will be appointed NTCU deputy director-general Valid Arfush,” the statement said.

    The NTCU says that the Euronews Ukrainian-language version editorial office will be located in the Euronews headquarters in Lyon, France, although the international TV channel will send part of its employees to Ukraine.

    At the moment 10 round-the-clock versions of EuroNews are running: English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arabian, Persian and Turkish.

    As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on October 11 allocated UAH 85.572 million for creation of round-the-clock Ukrainian-language version of Euronews and also UAH 3.629 million to repay the debts of the National Television Company of Ukraine owed to EuroNews for annual membership fees.

    In September 2009, the National Television Company and EuroNews signed an agreement on creation of short Ukrainian-language version of EuroNews, which was put on air in November 2009 and is broadcasted Monday to Friday in 10 to 12 minutes pieces.

    Euronews shareholders are 21 public or state TV companies, including the NTCU.

    Principal shareholders are France Televisions (France), RAI (Italy), VGTRK (Russia), TRT (Turkey) and SSR (Switzerland).
