The much-anticipated SAIC Volkswagen ID. ERA family’s first sedan, the ID. ERA 5S, has officially launched at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show on August 21st. Alongside its debut, the new ID. ERA 8X and ID. ERA 5X were also unveiled, joining the existing flagship ID. ERA 9X for a quad-car display.

Key Features and Technology
As the first sedan in the ID. ERA family and Volkswagen’s global debut of a German-engineered hybrid intelligent family sedan supporting urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot), the ID. ERA 5S boasts impressive technology.
It features the ‘Xingyun Zhixing’ advanced driving assistance system, the ‘Yunqi Zhicang’ intelligent cockpit, and a ‘Golden Super Hybrid’ system, generating significant market anticipation.
Dimensions and Performance
The new vehicle measures 4836mm in length, 1880mm in width, and 1505mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2766mm. It is Volkswagen’s first sedan globally equipped with urban NOA high-level intelligent driving capabilities.
The car is powered by a 1.5L plug-in hybrid system, with the engine delivering a maximum net power of 80kW and the drive motor peaking at 130kW. It offers a CLTC pure electric range exceeding 160km, a combined range of 2,000km, and a fuel consumption of 2.82L/100km in conditions of battery depletion.
