Mercedes-Benz has globally unveiled its all-new long-wheelbase GLE SUV at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. This new model is set to officially launch in September.

Key Features of the New GLE SUV

The refreshed GLE boasts a larger, signature Mercedes-Benz shield grille, enhanced with illuminated chrome borders and a central illuminated three-pointed star. To improve the driving experience, it comes standard with NVH vehicle noise reduction components, silent tires, and double-layered acoustic glass for both front and rear passengers.

Enhanced Space and Comfort

A significant upgrade is the extended wheelbase, measuring 3,115mm, which is 120mm longer than the overseas model. This provides an impressive rear legroom of 1,020mm. Passengers in the rear will benefit from a 3-stage heated seat and headrest function, as well as a multi-point seat massage system.

Off-Road Capabilities

The new GLE SUV is equipped with the 4MATIC intelligent all-wheel-drive system as standard. Engaging the off-road mode allows the AIRMATIC air suspension to increase ride height by an additional 30mm, achieving a minimum ground clearance of 271mm.

Advanced Technology and Infotainment

Inside, the vehicle features a striking suspended ultra-wide screen composed of three 12.3-inch displays. It integrates the Momenta R6 large model, enabling intelligent driving assistance for both urban and highway navigation across the country. Future updates are planned to incorporate the Momenta R7 world model, offering a comprehensive “driveway to driveway” assisted driving experience, making it one of the first luxury fuel vehicles to feature such advanced capabilities.

China-Specific Innovations

A dedicated rear-seat entertainment system, developed by Mercedes-Benz’s China R&D team, is included. This system utilizes an edge-based multimodal VLM large model, supporting various gesture controls. The vehicle also features the new Mercedes-Benz MB.OS architecture, specifically customized for the Chinese market, enabling over-the-air (OTA) updates for all vehicle software, including the intelligent driving systems.
